Huipil
Nebaj, Quiché
Linguistic Community: Ixil

The garment is made with two cloth panels woven on a backstop loom with cotton yarn. The geometric, zoomorphic and phitomorphic designs were brocaded using supplementary wefts of mercerized cotton.

It features birds and a donkey carrying a small bird next to a corn plant. These are all characters from a Nebaj legend. The round neckline is decorated with an application of cloth and crochet chains made with acrylic yarn, that were machine-sewn onto the huipil. The warp lines and the horizontal rows form a grid on the cloth panels, in which each figure occupies its own square.
