Huipil
San Pedro Carchá, Alta Verapaz
Linguistic Community: Q’eqchi’

This garment is made with three cloth panels. It is customarily worn outside the corte or skirt. The background is predominantly black, with striking geometric motifs brocaded with supplementary wefts.
The most attractive is the center panel with its zigzagging rows. The huipil was woven on a treadle loom using the gauze technique and featuring patterns that are very similar to what European peasants used to wear.
